Yesterday was a very meaningful day for me.
I became a member of a study group in Bangalore last year. It is a group of adult women who are intellectually curious and have a lot of life experience. The study group meets few times a month on various topics. I have only participated in six of them, but each one has been a great opportunity for me to learn some unknown facts.
I was asked to give a talk to the group, even though I am a new member. A friend of mine, who knows my work well recommended me to do.
After returning from Delhi, I immediately set to work on the documentation. I have given many seminars to Japanese people, in Japanese. But this was my first presentation on this subject in English. Translating the document (74 pages in total!) into English was not an easy task for me, so I took the help of translation software.
The venue was our new house in North Bangalore, so I thought that the number of participants would be small. But more than 20 members turned up. And they listened to my presentation more attentively than I expected. I was really happy to be able to share my personal experiences and the history of India and Japan. I have also received a lot of positive feedback.
I have been thinking for the last year that both my personal business and my philanthropic work through Muse Creations should shift the direction. Since I started living in Bangalore in 2005, the majority of my business clients have been Japanese and my philanthropic work has also targeted the Japanese community in Bangalore.
One of the reasons for this is the problem of my lack of English language skills. However, translation software has improved. Instead of hesitating because my English is incomplete, I also felt that I should have confidence in my abilities. Yesterday's experience has given me the opportunity to try new challenges. Thank you!
