New ark mission
🌸Muse Creation celebrates its 11th anniversary. This is another milestone event.
This month marks the 11th anniversary of the founding of Muse Creation. Although the pandemic has forced me to change the activities from what we used to be, it has been an opportunity for Muse Creation to gain a new perspective. I am now starting to involve not only Japanese but also Indian people in our activities.
On Sunday, I attended a social impact event organised by YPO.
This involved inviting NGO representatives and philanthropists from Bangalore to speak with participants in a round-table discussion format.
Of the six participating organisations, three are organisations I know well.
Despite being a foreigner, my social contribution activities in India are quite rich. I have come to want to share my experiences not only with the Japanese but also with Indians.
I share here the transcript I read when I was given the opportunity to address the audience at the beginning of the event.
I met Arvind in New York in 1996 and moved to Bangalore in 2005. In the past, I was so preoccupied with building my career that I could not afford to look at social responsibility. However, my thinking changed soon after I moved to India. Poverty is unrelenting and eye-opening.
I wanted to know social realities, even if only a little, so I started visiting charitable organisations in 2007. I then set up an NGO called Muse Creation in 2012 and I have visited about 20 charities in Bangalore and Mumbai more than 80 times with Japanese members and their families.
Three of the six organisations represented today, Newark Mission, OBLF and Bangalore Hospice Trust, are organisations that I have visited many times over the past 10 years. The progress that each of these organisations has made over the past decade has amazed me with each visit.
The founders and most of the staff of the operation are very aware of their mission. They continue their mission without giving up.
At first I thought we are “givers” by donating money and playing with children, singing and dancing with their people. However, It was a misconception. We have been given, what we cannot see. I have learnt so much from visiting charities and witnessing their efforts that it is hard to put into words.
It is a life-enriching experience that money cannot buy. Muse Creation’s work has also helped me to develop an eye for Indian life and society. This is one of the reasons I have been able to continue this activity for so long.
Seeing is believing.
Normally, visiting the charities is a shortcut to a deeper understanding, but that is not easy. I think it is a very valuable opportunity to hear the voices of several contributors in one place.
I believe that this event is very meaningful for all of us.
I would like to thank to everyone who has visited today, and to the organizers. I hope that today will be the start of one.
Thank you.
◉First photo. I was happy to be sandwiched between "Auto Raja" and "Eat Raja". Auto Raja gave me the bouquet of roses. Thank you!
◉The six organisations that took part in this event are listed below. Also, Vendors, who provided the tasty food and yummy drinks, are cares about the environment and the society!
◉I have documented most of the activities I have been involved in since moving to India on my blog. The records of my visits to charitable organisations include the impressions of the members who accompanied me. All are precious memories.
I went to Home of Hope there was so many people who was on the road or almost dying on the street, but someone called Raja helped them. Raja was nice guy and cool and I think everyone wanted to be like that one. When I went there I felt afraid so I cried because some people looked at me, but they were kind and I played with many kids they were kind and friendly.
I learnt many things during this activity. I learnt that there are many people living in New Ark Mission who are sick, injured, and have difficulties in this world.
When I met the children, there didn’t have any bad appearance. Many of them have their own talents and bright personalities. I had a lot of fun playing with them.
But they all had no parents and could not lead a life without any inconvenience like I do. I think that Mr. Raja is like a father to them.
I felt that what Mr. Raja was doing was not for his own greed, but rather out of his kindness and sense of justice to help the children and adults who were suffering as much as possible.
But compared to Japan, there are many people in India who are facing many difficulties. It may be due to the old Indian hierarchy or the poverty of the country itself. I think that Mr. Raja is an amazing person who everyone should respect for his efforts to help those who are suffering from this system. I would like to help the society by taking these issues seriously.
New Ark Mission Home of Hope
I visited a welfare home/orphanage for the first time in this activity. This event was a new experience for me. I was shocked to see the real problems that are happening today. The first video I saw moved me and showed me an India I didn't know existed. What touched me the most was when Auto raja himself got into an ambulance and took people living in the slums of India who were in the eye―popping bad conditions to the ambulance, treated their wounds and gave them shelter at the New Ark Mission Home of Hope, which he runs himself.
The New Ark Mission Home of Hope is run by the Mission itself. Mr Auto raja has become one of the people I admire for his dedication to treating people with severe injuries, such as necrotic arms and legs and those who cannot walk properly. The shelter we visited during this activity was a facility where more than 700 people, both men and women, lived. Some of the people living there were mentally ill, some were seriously ill and on the verge of death, and some were unable to live in India because they could not get an exit VISA. So there were not only Indians but also Africans, people from Nepal and other countries living in the facility.
Also, with so many people living in the facility, there is a food shortage problem. Raja told me that 100 kg of rice is consumed per day. I was very surprised and saddened to hear that the government does not provide any assistance. I think Mr Auto raja is wonderful for not giving up and doing wonderful activities under such difficult circumstances.
New Ark Mission
① Thank you for organizing this meaningful activity. I really wanted to visit such a place at least once. Great experience giving a small joy to the kids. I will complain even less often hereafter!
② It was a very good experience to Visit New Arc mission of India. Initially I felt it's little bit disturbing but it's the reality of society. Especially, when visited old people, eyes got wet and became very emotional. On other side, had a very good time to play with children. Learnt Origami Art from them and made Hat, Boat, Bird and Flower. Just thinking that we should look into their education. I am thankful to the management for arranging such good work. This kind of works give us eternal satisfaction. Thanks to Miho San & Mr. Auto Raja, who gave us a chance to visit there and to serve them.
③ We got the opportunity to see and understand other side of the World filled with harsh realities. I had never been to any orphanage in my life, so I didn’t know how is the life on the other side of wall. I felt their pain and sorrow by stepping in their shoes. I could feel the pain they have gone through. This visit has also taught what a human can do for human being without giving any excuses. Brother Autoraja’s selfless devotion, unconditional love and sacrifices for the destitute and under privileged children and patients is incredible. He has brought the new ray of hope and optimistic possibilities in their life. He is doing great work for the society.
We played with the small children over there. They had went through tough time. If our presence had brought smile and joy on their faces then I think our visit was worthwhile. I was delighted to see smile on the faces of children receiving cake from my hand. I enjoyed playing cricket with a small girl over there. She surprised me with her batting strokes. It was great to see small young brains drawing, painting, making origami craft. Looking at them I felt they are equally talented like us, but they only require our support and love to fly high in life. I would like to thank my management for arranging this CSR activity and special thanks to Miho San & Brother Autoraja.
④ It was a very good experience for me. I could join the activity though I was late. But I could play something with children and listen the story from Mr. Auto Raja. I was surprised about everything in the place. There were so many people. And I could feel the atmosphere in the place. It wasn’t easy situation definitely. It was necessary of our support. I understood the activity is very important. We have to join and support to this kind of activity positively not only India but also globally. I would like to share the my experience with my family and friends. Of course, I’ll continue CSR as KITO India member from now on.
⑤ The activity was connecting. The NGO run by Auto-Raja & team is very tough. Giving life to destitute and managing the organisation should be very challenging. I could understand the value of life and value of what we have in life. We often see such people struggling on roads, but this guy has brave heart to give them a shelter. He is also ensuring food, clothing & shelter. Activity with children was more unique, Children also seems thrilled with the toys, activity sheets, chocolates, drinks. Kudos to organising team. A boy started playing cricket and when another boy came over he waited. This is good discipline, which is commendable. It was a good connecting and realisation time. Thanks to Miho San who made us comfortable and co-ordinated from beginning to the end.
⑥ First of all I would like to thank our management for providing such a great opportunity to visit an orphanage as CSR initiative. This is really a great step & our responsibility towards the society. In my previous company also i had participated in few of the CSR activities. So, i am feeling extremely grateful that we have taken our step forward towards this. The feeling after the visit is not possible to express in words actually for me. I got very emotional after meeting all the people (like Old people, Young but physically or mentally challenged people, people with severe disease but no family).
After meeting Children I am still thinking in deep sometimes which really i can't express, but my eyes gets wet all those time. Playing with childrens & cake distribution was really extraordinary to see the smile on their faces. Generally, I love children's , & always used to play with them at my home or anywhere if I get an opportunity, so for me this was really a big-gift from our Management. I would like to appreciate Miho-San who is doing this great not only the job but actually an 'achievement' everyday. Thank you for everything & once again for giving us this feedback opportunity to express our emotions as well.
⑦ Thank you for arranging this activity. I became very emotional to see such people, who does not have proper shelter and food. Till now, I have heard about it but after seeing it physically made me more emotional. I will visit such orphanase presonaly in future and definitely contribute something from my side too.
⑧ Thank you very much for arranging the CSR activity. I never done this kind of activity in my past, so i like to continue this kind of activity in further. After seeing all these kids and old people , my heart was melting and i couldn't be able to express myself. When i was playing with children i saw the real happiness from their eyes and they also enjoyed playing with us.
I am requesting management to continue this kind of activities in future.
⑨ Thank you for this CSR activity. I never saw this kind of orphanage in my life. I am grateful that I was part of that CSR activity. For this reason, I want to say thank you to management for giving me this kind of opportunity. I want to take part this kind of CSR activities in future also. After seeing old people at hospital, I started crying, that’s why immediately I came out from that hospital room. I was speechless for some time. Then when I saw kids & their smiling face, I feel real happiness. I started playing with them like I play with my son at my home when I get free time. When I was leaving from that place, I prayed for them. I request management to continue this kind of CSR activities in future also.
Today, for the first time in a year and a half, I visited the New Ark Mission, a charitable organization. The New Ark Mission was started in 1997 by Raja, an autorickshaw driver. He began by taking people who were dying on the streets into his home and caring for them.
Currently, there are about 750 people living there, including children. Most of them have amnesia or mental illness. Every day, someone is picked up and every day, someone dies. It is a place where people live and die everyday. There is no government support, and everything is made up of individual and corporate support.
It is one of the charities I have visited most often since my first visit 10 years ago. I keep a record of all my visits on my blog, so you can see the history.
RTE (The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education ACT)
Home of hope
The new arc mission~Home of Hope~に行きました。
